The country lost a legendary actress and comedian when Laila Sari passed away on Monday evening at the age of 82.
Maya Sari, Laila’s adopted daughter, told kompas.com that, prior to her death, her mother had just returned home from filming a comedy show for a local TV station.
“She went to the bathroom and suddenly lost her consciousness,” Maya said. “She couldn’t breathe, and I was under shock at the time.”
Laila had three grandchildren from Maya, her only child.
Until old age, Laila was known for her energetic and funny performance on screen. She became famous after appearing in Teguh Karya’s 1971 film Wadjah Seorang Laki-laki (A Man’s Face).
The funeral was held on Tuesday noon at the Karet Bivak public cemetery in Central Jakarta. (wir/asw)
