Veteran actress Rathnawali Kekunawela passes away at 87

Veteran actress Rathnawali Kekunawela passed away yesterday. She was 87 years old. An accomplished and award-winning actress in film, television and stage, Ms Kekunawela was also highly regarded for her contribution to radio in the country.

She played a variety roles in a number of radio plays since the 1950s. Ms Kekunawela was best known and loved among the public for her role as “Menike” in the radio play “Muwan Palassa,” the country’s longest running radio play.

Her remains lie at 25/1 C, Wedikanda Road, Ratmalana. Final rites will be held tomorrow, at 4 p.m, at the Borella General Cemetery.
