1926 - 2017
Nannie Omega "Miggie" Lewis, 91, of The Lewis Family entered into
rest on Monday, December 26, 2017, after a recent illness. One of the
original members of the family lovingly referred to as the First Family
of Bluegrass Gospel Music, The Lewis Family, Miggie spent 58 years
traveling and singing with her parents, siblings, nieces and nephews
during their nearly six decade career.
The funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Hephzibah Baptist Church with Rev. Allen Danner and Rev. Alan Quarles officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with Rev. Steve Snider officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be Travis Lewis, Keith Lewis, Joey Lewis, Mike Lewis, Stan Lewis, Scott Williamson and Lewis Phillips.
Miggie was the oldest of eight children belonging to Pop and Mom Lewis and although she never married or had children of her own, Miggie was never alone. Her parents lived with her until their deaths at 92 and 98 years of age. She was always surrounded by her siblings, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews and thousands of Lewis Family fans. Miggie loved the music her family sang, keeping up with the 'news' of her family and friends, and staying an active part of their lives.
Miggie was preceded in death by her parents, James Roy "Pop" Lewis and Blanche Pauline "Mom" Lewis and her brothers Mosely Lewis and Wallace Lewis. She is survived by two sisters, Polly Lewis Williamson Copsey and Janis Lewis Phillips of Lincolnton; three brothers, Calvin Esley Lewis and wife, Evelyn of Hephzibah, Ga. , Eugene Talmadege Lewis and wife, Cornelia of Evans, Ga. and Little Roy Lewis and wife, Bonnie of Lincolnton; nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews; and great-great nieces and nephews.
If so desired memorial contributions may be made to the Restoration of the Lewis Family Homeplace, P.O. Box 160, Lincolnton, GA. 30817.
You may sign the family's online guestbook at www.reesfh.com.
Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at Rees Funeral Home, 195 N. Peachtree St., Lincolnton, GA. 30817.
