Indonesian actor and martial artist, Advent Bangun, passed away at the age of 65 on Saturday morning at Fatmawati Hospital, South Jakarta.
The body of the actor, who became a priest later in his life, will be moved to his home at Jl. Kecapi II No. 64, Jagakarsa, South Jakarta.
Advent Bangun was reported to have suffered from kidney failure since April 2017. He had to undergo dialysis treatment twice a week. According to tempo.co, his condition improved two weeks ago but still had to be treated in the hospital.
The actor was born on Oct. 12, 1952, in Kabanjahe, North Sumatra. His father was a prosecutor who raised him with strict values of discipline and honesty. Advent was once a national karate champion for 12 consecutive years. He entered competitions in Asia, Europe and the United States. Karate was also the gateway to his acting career.
He gained popularity during the 1980s as an actor who specialized in action-packed movies. Having starred in about 60 movies and a few television series, he was on par with famous actors and martial artists at that time, such as Barry Prima and George Rudy. (mut/kes)
