Patrick Bourgeois, the singer of Les BB, a popular band at the end of the 1980s and beginning of the 1990s, died of cancer, his family announced Sunday evening.
The 54-year-old had lived with cancer for several months, his partner Mélanie Savard said on Facebook, adding that he “died peacefully in my arms.”

After collaborating with Rock et Belles Oreilles, Bourgeois formed, with Alain Lapointe and François Jean, the trio Beaux Blonds, later Les BB, and released their first album in 1989. The songs Loulou, Fais attention and T’es dans la lune were hits, and the album sold more than 200,000 copies.
The group won three Félix trophies from the Quebec music industry in 1990, for group of the year, rock album of the year and rock concert of the year.
Their second album, 1991’s Snob, was even more popular, with 300,000 copies sold and three more singles at the top of the charts: Snob, Donne-moi ma chance and Seul au combat.
The group split up after a third studio album in 1994. Bourgeois put out two solo albums in 1998 and 2001 and hosted a Radio-Canada TV show called Fa Si La Chanter in 1997-98. Les BB tried to get back together several times, the last one in 2015, but never found the same success.
In 2017, Bourgeois saw his son Ludovick become a candidate in the TVA singing competition series La Voix. Ludovick’s blind audition used one of his father’s songs, Tu ne sauras jamais. His performance charmed the judges, and the audience, and Ludovick ended the season as the competition’s winner.
