Ellis, Ora "Herby" Herbert 8/16/1950 - 12/9/2017 Saline Ora Herbert Ellis,Jr. passed away peacefully on December 9, 2017 at the Residence of Arbor Hospice in Saline, Michigan. He was born in Ann Arbor on August 16, 1950 to Ora Herbert Ellis,Sr. and Mary Virginia (Wilson) Ellis. "Herby", as he was known to many, was raised in Ann Arbor and graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1968. He attended Central Michigan University where he graduated with a BA in Acting. He also earned a MFA in Acting at the University of Iowa. Herby worked locally for many years in the food industry, most notably at Big Boys restaurant and Pizza House. However, his real passion was the theater where he was an accomplished actor. Herby spent several years with the National Shakespeare Company in New York with leading roles in a number of productions. He also starred in plays at Central Michigan University, the University of Iowa and Fresno State University. Herby had guest appearances on television including a role on "Unsolved Mysteries". Herby appeared in 2 feature films; "Judicial Consent" (HBO) and "Miami Cops" with Richard Roundtree. He also did billboard, television and radio commercials and voice-overs in the Detroit area. Herby had an infectious laugh and enjoyed a good joke. He loved to poke fun at people in a good natured way. He was kind hearted, especially to young children and dogs. Herby was interested in many things and had an inquisitive mind. He had a wonderful singing voice and loved to perform at karaoke clubs. Most of all, Herby loved his friends and family. Herby is survived by his brother, Jeffrey (Bonnie), nieces Keri and Carlye and nephew Jonathon as well as his Aunt Betty and a host of cousins.
