Kannada actor Chandrashekhar passes away in Canada

Kannada actor Chandrashekhar, popularly known as ‘Edakallu Guddada Mele’ Chandrashekhar, 63, passed away early on Saturday, in Canada. His daughter, Tanya, based out of Bengaluru told the media that her father had suffered a massive cardiac arrest.

Chandrashekhar debuted as a child artiste in Namma Makkalu in 1969 and got his big break from the film Edakallu Guddada Mele, directed by S.R. Puttanna Kanagal. He acted in over 40 films, and his last film 3 Gante 30 Dina 30 Second is ready for release. Another film Raju Kannada Medium in which he acted in is running in theatres now.

Chandrashekhar shifted to Canada after his marriage to dancer Sheela in 1984 and had remained away from the Kannada film industry before returning in 2004 when he directed and acted in Poorvapara with Geeta. Later, he was shuttling between Bengaluru and Canada, doing a few supporting roles. Ms. Tanya said he returned to Canada from Bengaluru just 10 days ago. “I spoke to him yesterday night when he was shifted to hospital. He only said he had slight pain, but I got a call around 3.30 a.m. saying he had passed away,” she told presspersons. The family is yet to decide on whether to bring the body to Bengaluru or conduct the last rites in Canada itself.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and BJP State president B.S. Yeddyurappa have mourned the death of Chandrashekhar.
