Barbara Adams Mowat
Passed away
peacefully at her home in Washington, DC on November 24, 2017. Barbara
was born in Eufaula, AL on January 29, 1934. Dr. Mowat has been a
world-renowned Shakespeare scholar for many decades. She adored her
grandchildren, and spent time with them whenever possible. One of her
greatest pleasures was taking care of her dog, Spencer.Barbara is
survived by her sisters Beth (Wayne) Bickham of Columbia, SC and Mary A.
Belk of Auburn, AL; her children William G (Debra) Mowat of Bellevue,
WA and Elizabeth C (Brad) Lewin of Annapolis, MD; and her beloved
grandchildren Nina Mowat, Cecelia Lewin, and Jacob Lewin. She is also
lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a multitude of
other friends and family both biological and of the heart. She is
predeceased by her parents Cleveland Lloyd Adams and Fannie Corbitt
Adams and her sister Jane (Tommy) Goff of Auburn, AL.A memorial service
will be held in the North Hall of Eastern Market, corner of 7th St. SE
and North Carolina Ave. at 10 a.m. on November 29, 2017. In lieu of
flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Folger Shakespeare
Library, 201 East Capitol Street SE (or online at http://www.folger.edu).
